Questions For A First Date That Will Tell You If He's The One
First dates can be really nerve-wracking. If you're anything like me, going prepared will help ease those nerves and help you feel in control of the situation. Asking the right questions will also cut through all the nonsense and get straight to finding out whether this is the guy for you or not.
Try not to come off like you are interrogating him. Keep these questions in mind, but if you don't get to all of them, don't stress, there's always the second date.
- What’s Your Favourite Cuisine?
No quicker way to get to a man’s heart than through his stomach. If you start the conversation off with his favourite food, then you understand the keys to making him yours (the food-topic is one of the best conversation starters).
- Which Parent are You Closer to?
This question is key in a new relationship, because it will tell you where he stands in his relationship with his parents. If he says his mother, you’ve got a keeper! No man who has a bad relationship with his mother will last long in a relationship with you.
- Do You Like Cats or Dogs?
The answer to this question is not a make-or-break type of deal. It is just to gauge his interest level in animals. A guy who loves animals is a guy that is in tune with nature’s beautiful miracle of life. If he says cats, you’ve found a rare guy. Doesn’t mean he is over-sensitive; it’s just his personal preference.
- What is Your Type of Girl?
Try to ask this one without having yourself in mind the entire time. Really focus on what he is saying so that you can decide for yourself if you are compatible. Because if you don’t fit the standard he has for the way a girl behaves, there is a good chance the relationship will just be a waste of your time.
- Do You Like Kids?
This one is a crucial aspect. The questions to ask your new boyfriend should be for your own benefit rather than his. Ask him about things that he is interested in and you will find if you are on the same page.
- What Are Your Goals in Life?
More specifically, you could ask him about his career or health goals. There is nothing more attractive than a guy with long-term goals who knows his direction in life.
- What Are Your Passions?
Finding out a man’s hobbies is important because you will know what to expect in your new relationship. Find out the things he likes to do in his free time so you can support them.
- Do You Like Travel?
This is a very important question. Travelling is a way for people to escape the monotony of everyday life and is even better with a partner. Ask him where he is most interested in going in his lifetime.
- What are You Expecting from This Relationship?
This is about the most serious question on this list, but it is only included because it is crucial to find out at what point he is in his life. You can’t just go off someone’s age in assuming that they are looking for the same things as you are in a relationship.
- What are Your Biggest Pet Peeves?
Let’s just get the negative topics out of the way early so you can avoid getting on his nerves before the new relationship even starts. It could potentially backfire, but it is a good question to ask and could produce some interesting answers if both of you are open-minded and comfortable with each other.
- What’s Your Favorite Book of All Times?
And if he doesn’t have one or if it is Harry Potter: kick him in the curb! Nothing can tell you more about a man and his true intelligence more than the kind of books he is interested in.
- What was Your Most Embarrassing Moment?
This question could get some laughs. It’s a good ice-breaker to let off some first date anxiety.
- What are Your Strengths/Weaknesses?
This one comes from a new job interview list of questions to ask. It’s an important topic to know because it shows you how truthful and self-aware he is. If he is willing to open up about a very deep topic, it’s a sign that he is comfortable talking to you.
- What was Your Last Dream You Remember?
This is a very interesting question that often goes overlooked in relationships because people don’t understand the true value of dreams. His dreams could give you a sneak peek into the inner workings of his mind.
- Would You Ever Skydive or Bungee Jump?
This one is to gauge his adventurous side. It’s not a deal-breaker if he wouldn’t do either. But guys who are more open-minded love to take risks a little bit more than the average guy.
- Are You a Morning Person or a Night Owl?
Ask this one because you don’t want to be the night owl that’s with an early riser. It might work for a while, but it will start to wear on you after a while.
- What is Your Favourite Cartoon?
This could end up saying a lot about him and his childhood. If you understand what he liked as a child growing up, it could give you an idea of his sense of humour as an adult.
- What Are Your Friends Like?
This gives him a chance to talk about people other than himself. If he has only negative things to say, then it is not a good sign.
19. What Happened with Your Last Relationship
In every new relationship, some rain must fall. It’s an uncomfortable topic, but a necessary one to avoid making the same mistakes as his past girlfriends.
20. Can You Cook?
Last but not least, find out how much responsibility you can share with each other in the relationship. Is he at least willing to help you cook, or will he just make you do all the work?
